So you’re having a baby shower…

Let me start by saying that my baby shower was pure gold.  The straight up kind of magic that you see in movies.  My mom, sister, mother-in-law knocked it out of the park.  Venue was great.  Food on point.  More love in the air than Hallmark can bottle up in February. Truly a memorable day celebrating our soon to be baby girl.

I write all this because I’ll never forget one thing that my mom said to me when we were planning my wedding.  I was carrying on and being a little bit selfish with some of the plans.  She turned to me at one point, and said, it’s not all about you, Terese… And I gotta tell you, stuck with me to this day.  Note: my mom is by no means the b that I can be.  Trust me.  You like her shirt? She’ll give it to you.  She hurt your feelings? She’ll cry harder than you.  Probably one of the kindest, most generous people I’ve ever known.  Shout out to her here: Love you Mom/Chuch/Grammy! You’re everything I want to be in a mom, wife, friend..

I digress… So that piece of advice: It’s not all about me, stuck with me during this whole baby process.  Granted, I was the pregnant one going through the actual physical journey, but this was a monumentous occasion for everyone else too.  The moms becoming grandmothers to their first granddaughter.  The sisters becoming aunts.  My Gram a great grandmother and all the extendeds in between. You get the idea…

So take this opportunity to sit back and not only celebrate you and your future family, but take a minute to see where you came from; the joy you’re sharing; and the impact you’re having on the lives of everyone else.  The whole experience truly is a gift from above and I’m thankful everyday for the opportunity to share/have shared it with everyone else.
